Tattoos on My Heart

Tattoos on My Heart

feat. Arne “Muraoka” Asaumi

July 18, 2019 | 5:30 – 6:15 p.m.

Arne “Muraoka” Asaumi is a Japanese-American new media and tattoo artist from Hawaii currently living in Chicago. Arne works with experimental 3D animation, game design, and performance, but has a tattoo practice that has grown from a hobby to a substantial focus in their post-college life. Tattooing is a method of stretching, peeling, scratching, and marking a person’s body in a strangely intimate, yet kind way.

Arne’s digital work primarily exists in the space between knowing how to look at yourself, understanding the significance of culture differences, and feeling not quite in your own skin. However, through their tattoo work, they have found a way to re-ground themselves in a physical space that allows them to share parts of their artwork that would otherwise hide indefinitely in notebooks and printout margins.
