NAC Celebrates 40 Years

The Norfolk Arts Center is throwing itself a party on Friday, October 26 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. to celebrate hitting the big 4-0. The ‘80s-themed costume party is free to all and open to the public.

Come dressed in your favorite ‘80s gear or as an ‘80s icon. Musician Dave Merkel will perform your favorite hits from the decade. The fabulous forty party is free and welcomes all ages.

The Norfolk Arts Center was established in 1978. Over the last forty years, it has positively affected the lives of tens of thousands of northeast Nebraskans through theatre, music, and visual arts experiences. The staff and Board of Directors hope that everyone who has participated in NAC activities will join in commemorating this milestone year.

The NAC is seeking photos from participants of past events. Photographs and other memorabilia may be brought to the NAC and digital images emailed to info@norfolkartscenter.org. Physical items will be returned after the party.

Gallery Artist Ryan Crotty in Focus

Our current main gallery artist Ryan Crotty was the focus of a recent Norfolk Daily News article. Crotty’s exhibit will be on display through November 29. Read the Norfolk Daily News article here –>

Passport to Art Launch Party

Passport to ArtCalling all Norfolk 5th graders! You are invited to join a special program at the Norfolk Arts Center created just for you! The Passport to Art program gives you access to exclusive classes and events in art, music, and theatre through the Norfolk Arts Center. Best of all, it’s free!

How It Works:

Free special events will be held each month for Art Passport holders. You must bring your passport to the event to gain admission. Each event that you attend earns you a “stamp” in your Art Passport. You can also receive stamps by attending other NAC events. Your passport is good until the August of your 6th-grade year. At the end of the art passport adventure, students will receive a gift based on the number of stamps they collected during their “travels”.

Launch Party: Saturday, October 13 at Noon

The official launch party and sign up is on Saturday, October 13th at 12:00. Sign up forms have been distributed to area schools. Please bring your completed form along with you. Sign up forms will also be available at the NAC. If you are unable to make it to the launch party, you may sign up for the program later.

Denice Hansen appointed as new Executive Director

The Board of Directors of the Norfolk Arts Center is pleased to announce the appointment of Denice Hansen as the organization’s Executive Director. The Norfolk Arts Center (NAC) is a non-profit dedicated to bringing people and the arts together, serving the greater northeast Nebraska area.

Denice Hansen began her relationship with the NAC four years ago as a Program Coordinator. Later, she was promoted to Assistant Director. Before becoming Executive Director, she acted as the Interim Director, providing oversight of programming and operations. Denice has been instrumental in bringing in national theatrical productions to the community and curating gallery exhibitions. She has established greater cooperation between the NAC and other community organizations. Denice spearheaded the development of ‘Fork Fest, which drew 1,000 people into downtown Norfolk on its debut and which continues to flourish under her leadership.

Denice holds a Bachelor of Studio Arts with an emphasis in visual communication from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She brings to the NAC 10 years of marketing and public relations experience. Prior to her time with the NAC, Denice contributed her creative talents to Wright Publishing Company of Omaha and the Hartington Shopper.

“I’m eager to step into the Executive Director role and utilize my background in marketing and public relations, as well as my established local connections to further extend the reach of the arts in our community,” says Hansen. “As an area native, I have a vested commitment to this community’s growth and success, and the arts are a key factor of that goal. My focus for the future will be pushing STEAM-based learning opportunities for area students in the theatre and classroom, continuing to grow community festivals that boast local creators as entrepreneurs and economic impactors, and striving for self-sustainability to ensure the arts thrive when outside factors are less reliable.”
