Visual artists are invited to submit their work to be exhibited and featured in the "Celebrate the Bicycle!" Art Show, as part of the Iowa Bicycle Festival on May 26, 2012. The artwork will be curated by a panel, and selected entries will be displayed in a newly renovated building located on the historic square in Jefferson, Iowa, also home to All Ability Cycles, LLC. The exhibit will remain open through June 30,2012.
Celebrate The Bicycle is a juried event. Three prizes totaling $850 will be awarded.

Young Artist Competition

Lincoln, NE - The Lincoln Municipal Band is pleased to announce the 19th annual John Shildneck Young Artist Competition. The competition is open to musicians, middle school age and older, who have not reached their 22nd birthday on or before July 1, 2012, and perform on woodwind, brass, percussion or string instruments, as well as vocalists. Those auditioning must be residents of Nebraska or currently studying with a Nebraska teacher.
The Lincoln Municipal Band was formed in 1907 and celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2007. Since 1911, the Lincoln Municipal Band has presented an annual series of Sunday evening summer concerts during July and August in Lincoln's Antelope Park. These concerts are the most popular events of the Lincoln Parks and Recreation summer performance series and attract regular crowds of over 1,500 citizens from Lincoln and its surrounding communities. The typical audience includes individuals, couples, families, and senior citizens.
For the preliminary round, competitors must submit a recorded audition of the piece they wish to play with the band on CD, along with a completed application form and $5.00 non-refundable fee. The solo must be available with band accompaniment. Applications and recordings must be postmarked by Thursday, March 1, 2012, and finalists will be notified by Sunday, March 25, 2012. Finalists will be invited to a live audition on Sunday, May 6, 2012 at 12:00 p.m. on the campus of Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln.
The winner will receive a $400 prize, the opportunity to perform with the Lincoln Municipal Band at the first summer concert on July 1, 2012 at the John Shildneck Memorial Bandshell at Antelope Park, and recognition in the program. The runner-up will receive a $100 prize and recognition in the program.
