The Lightning Thief Performance Electrifies the Audience

Theatreworks U.S.A. brought their touring production of “The Lightning Thief” to the  Johnny Carson Theatre today as part of the Norfolk Arts Center’s Theater for Kids program. Students from near and far came to enjoy the musical theatrical adaption of the popular Rick Riordan novel.

Each year the Theater for Kids program enriches the lives of over 5,000 Nebraska students by bringing in performances from all over the world. Judging by the happy faces today, “The Lightning Thief” was a hit. Students from Jefferson Elementary School in Norfolk remarked that they “wanted more” and are looking forward to reading the books that inspired the play. An educator from Hartington-Newcastle Public Schools said that these theater productions are a stepping stone for getting students interested in One Act plays and speech.

“The Lightning Thief” had two performances in Norfolk. In addition to sparking students’ interest in literature and theater, the performance meets NE FA 5.5.3 standards and provides curriculum connections in communication and language arts, music, and social studies.
